Should Our Water Tower Become A Cell Tower?

Attention Neighbors!

While the Thurmont Planning and Zoning Commission has rejected two plans to mount wireless phone antennas on the water tower in the Orchard Hills and Altogether developments [see Gazette story], Sprint and Nextel have filed for reconsideration of the site plan.

This reconsideration is scheduled to go before the Planning and Zoning Commission at their August 24th meeting [7:30 pm]. If you are concerned about health related issues, declining property values, preserving the residential character of our neighborhood and avoiding aesthetic blight with the installation of antennas and base buildings in our residential neighborhood, please plan to attend this meeting.

And if, like so many of us (the general public), you have not had the opportunity to become fully informed about the safety issues debate (within scientific communities) related to living near a cell tower, please take some time now to read the information posted or linked from this web site.

Other communities across the nation are saying "No!" or "Enough! No More!" to the installation of cell towers near their homes. Federal judges have already ruled in favor of communities who do not want cell towers in or near their residential areas.

A Clear Call is an absolutely superb overview of the Cellular Antenna siting controversy. In a studied, non-inflammatory way, the author explores the current issues relevant to cellular siting: preemption of local control, regulating bodies, a survey of current biological studies.
